My fic lives at my Archive of Our Own page. Some of its been posted here, too. But some hasn't, so AO3 is the best place to find most of it.

The majority of it is for Tamora Pierce (Tortall-verse) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The rest (right now) is Tamora Pierce (Emelan-verse), Angel, Firefly, Across the Universe, and Catherine Christian's retelling of Arthurian legend.

Sometimes I have Tamora Pierce fic (both universes) at the Goldenlake message board before I bother to archive it.

I'm sure I'm on record somewhere, saying I'm not an OTP sort of girl. There's so many possibilities, you see. )

Dear author,

Thanks for signing up to write for me! I'm a little late posting this -- apologies. If you're more organized than I am and have already started or planned your fic, please, carry on. I am beyond squee-ful at the prospect of a whole ficathon devoted to femslash, and I will be absolutely delighted to receive a fic for any of these requests.

But if you were waiting for a little more information, well. I like plot and fluff and angst-with-a-happy-ending and most AUs. You'll notice that most of the things I requested are sci fi or fantasy of some kind; I'm not much interested in "real world" or "all human" AUs, because I'm a genre nerd at heart, you see. Oh, I'm also quite ok with crossovers, as long as I'm familiar with both fandoms -- so should you feel compelled to cross any of my requests over with each other, or with anything else I've offered to write, please go ahead.

Ok, so I was going to share a little more info about my requests, but... honestly, I'm bored of all my ideas, and I know I'll be happy with whatever you choose to write. So have fun! And again, thank you.

Nicki

Torchwood?

Questions for anyone who's seen more than the first four episodes of Torchwood:
  • Does it get better?
  • When?
  • If I skip ahead to that point, will I know what's going on?
(By the way, I have no problem with spoilers, so comment away, if you'd like.)

I just can't get into it. )

.... 'Cause I haven't done one in a while, and I have me some snazzy new icons. I'm gonna cheat & use more than one for some questions.

(Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] bradcpu  while I was browsing for Buffy fic.)

This question has been kicking around in my brain for a while: what makes certain things more fandom- and fanfic-ready than others? Why do we decide to fic the things we fic?

I can only answer for myself, of course. I'm interested in hearing whether the conclusions I reach apply to others, as well.

For me, a fic-friendly canon has to be or include three things: the characters have to be compelling, the universe has to be compelling, and the story has to be – or at least feel – incomplete.

Ok, so Smackdown is still going on. )

In other news, I haven't decided if I'm still doing the Firefly big bang I still love Firefly! )

Finally, Real Life. Real life is a random assortment of good and bad. )

This is pretty disjointed, and maybe should be broken up into like 3 separate entries, but I don't have it in me right now. It's been a long couple of days, I'm getting over a really nasty chest cold, and I'm kinda zonked now. But, you know, still optimistic, somehow.

Writing's not an ambition for me or anything like that. It's just something I do. But it's something I like. It's something I miss, badly, during the times I'm not doing it.

I've realized, lately, that my writing skills are a lot more limited than I'd like. Specifically, I have trouble with plot, I lack staying power, I don't finish what I start, I rarely bother to outline or plan, and I'm much better at fanfic than at creating original characters. Since I'm not going to stop writing, I might as well work on some of these things.

writing plans under the cut. )

You might notice there's no Buffy on that list. If you friended me based on shared interest in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I'll say right now that I won't be offended if you want to un-friend so as to not have all my stuff cluttering up your list. I'll probably still read and comment on your posts, though! I'm still a fan, I'm just... distracted.

As for this Smackdown thing... disorganized rambles under the cut. )

maybe I'd be better off saving my energy for Neal-or-Raoul and Buri? I just don't know.

I've reached the stage where I'm desperately impatient to reply to the comments left on my Yuletide fics. YULETIDE HAS EATEN MY BRAIN. I've been reading like crazy, and finally remembered to start bookmarking... so like everybody else, I'll have a recs post coming out pretty soon (starting with the excellent gift!fic I received).

In the meantime, I'm kind of in love with the fandom I wrote for (which is the other reason I'm so impatient for the Big Reveal -- I want to talk about it!). I know it's a bad idea to expect a one-night stand to turn into True Love, but I just can't help it!!

Actually, I'm not sure that's the right analogy.

Given the amount of attention and planning that goes into writing for Yuletide... it's more like the fandom I wrote for is my prom date, if my steady, Firefly,(1) goes to another school & is so popular she already had plans for prom night. I asked, what, a dozen other people if they'd be my date,(2) and one of them said yes. We all spent weeks getting ready for the Big Night. And, er, then I ended up dancing with someone else for the whole night (by which I mean writing something I didn't initially offer)... and that's the fandom I'm in love with now. I totally put out, but it was more than just a one night stand.

(1) Given the obvious history between us, I can see how you'd think Buffy was my main squeeze, but I assure you, we're just good friends now. Really. Firefly understands.

(2) I didn't ask my ex, the Tortall universe, because I figured she already had a date. I was right -- recs coming soon.

Does this mean I'm leaving Firefly for the new fandom? Well, um... truth is, it wasn't that serious to begin with -- it's not like we were exclusive or anything. See the icon? I have a whole lot of ideas for a lot of fandoms kicking around inside my head, some Yuletide-inspired and some not. It should be fun -- which is really what this is all about.

Happy holidays, y'all, and best wishes for the new year. May 2010 be a big step up form 2009!

In fannish news, I've been chin-deep in Yuletide stuff for the past couple of weeks. I have three stories coming up at the AO3 Yuletide archive: 2 for my assigned recipient, 1 stocking stuffer for one of the last people to get assigned as a pinch hit. After the Big Reveal I'll cross-post to this journal. And, now that Yuletide is basically done, I should be able to settle in and write some more Firefly fic. Maybe some Bloody Jack fic, too: it's becoming apparent that, if I want such a thing, I'll have to write it myself (meta on why this is a Good Thing will, I hope, be coming soon-ish). *g*

The last non-Yuletide thing I was working on was for Firefly. I didn't have it all worked out, and I don't think I'll finish it... but it was going to center on tension between Mal and Zoe, and end with Zoe saying, "Ship can't have more than one captain," as she walked off the ship.

Well. )
Fortunately? We're closed for three days this week.... so now I'm off to cook, clean, and wrap presents. Merry Christmas!
peroxidepirate: (fandom slut)
Today was my day off, and I spent an insanely large part of it copying fics over to AO3, then futzing around with tags, ratings, formatting & so on. I believe that I've now archived all the stories I've posted, anywhere, since I got re-involved in online fandom earlier this year. Except one, which I'm clearly not going to finish & I decided I don't like that much anyway. (Oh yeah, I'm PeroxidePirate there, too.)

buncha stats + link to a brand new Firefly fic under the cut! )

I had some other thoughts on Yuletide (I'm stuck! Meep!) and Real Life (dogs + rain =/= fun; bleached-blond hair "temporarily" dyed black = Big Adventures in Coloration)... but, again, need to do something else with the rest of my evening. Like fix the hair color. Or focus on the new source material that's going to save my butt in the Yuletide exchange. But we'll see.

Firefly

I'm now obsessed with another show. My roommie's mom came to visit, and she brought the Firefly boxed set.

I think I'm in love.

I had to watch every episode, and then all the extras & commentary, during the two weeks she was here (which were also, it just figures, the busiest weeks of the year at work) so she could take the disks back with her when she went home.

And then, yesterday, I went and ordered my own set anyway. Along with the two Serenity graphic novels (and one Buffy omnibus I don't already have, which was available as a half-off nick & dent from TFAW.com). The only reason I didn't get the Serenity movie (yet) is that it's available as a Nexflix instant watch and I seriously shouldn't have been putting any of this stuff on my credit card in the first place. But. Firefly.
