SMACKDOWN pre-show
Mar. 2nd, 2011 11:26 amGoldenlake members have probably already seen this, but here's the official fight list for SMACKDOWN, and here's an event bracket I made.
Which I have also screencapped it and set as my desktop wallpaper, so I don't have to keep looking up the dates and match-ups.
I have no idea why I get this obsessed with this thing, but it's happening again.
In the first fight, I'm going to attempt to write some Buri/Thayet. Frankly I think Lark/Rosethorn is a shoe-in -- Luinae already had 100 entries stockpiled as of a few days ago, I suspect
elsceetaria is writing like crazy,
kitty_ryan is definitely in that corner, and
q_sama seems to be as well. So far, team Buri/Thayet seems to be.... Moony, and me. So I'm just hoping we can give them halfway decent showing.
The other arena is two guy-slash pairings I'm ambivalent on (Jon/Zahir and Dom/Evin), so it's kind of off my radar. I do know these two pairings have the same general fanbase (like the two femslash pairings in the first arena), so I'm really not sure who's ended up in which corner. But I found out last year that I can't focus on two fights at once anyway -- at least, not if I'm writing -- so I don't have much to say about that one.
The second set of fights, I have no idea if or what I might decide to write. If I want to write Clary/Mattes or Aly/Taybur, I suppose I should start rereading now so I'm in the right mood -- but that might break me too far out of the Emelan-bubble I've been in lately (more on that in a minute), so perhaps I'll default to Kel/Maura instead (since I know the PotS world like I know my own, and can generally slide in and out of it for fic purposes with no trouble). In which case, I'll be against
q_sama , probably
journeycat and
ubiquitous_girl , and the rest of Team Wyldon. Kel has a lot of love, but I really don't think it's obsessive enough to get this pairing to Round 2. Given that Kel had a SMACKDOWN all her own last year, I can't be too sad about that.
I'm unsure about the third set, too, but I'm leaning toward Raoul/Gary. As I said in a comment on
q_sama 's journal, they were the highest vote-getter among the member-choice pairings, and they were Pierce fandom's first big slash pairing, so I'd like to see them go far. They have a huge amount of history to play in, I love Gary's snark, and I can almost always write from Raoul's POV. But this is the set of fights where I'm least able to even guess at an outcome. Lisa's supporting Neal/Owen, as is
inthefire -- and if she can do half of what she did for Owen last year, it will get intense. The other arena is Kel/Jonathan vs. Rosethorn/Crane, a cross-universe match-up that's also likely to become heated.
Most of my energy is already geared toward the last set of fights in round one. One arena is Raoul/Sabine vs. Roger/Alanna, which is sure to be an interesting match since I'm certain there will be some very prolific writers (/rabid fangirls) on both sides. I'm hesitantly interested in both pairings, but I'll be staying away...
... Because the last fight in arena two is Tris/Briar/Sandry/Daja vs. Delia/Josiane. I've already started writing for T/B/S/D, and I know I'm not the only one. I'm not sure if anyone is really supporting Delia/Josiane; I feel a little bad about that, but not enough to defect from my SMACKDOWN OT4. I already talked about this, and I don't have much to add now -- except that I'm very much enjoying being inside my Emelan fic!bubble! It took me a long time (most of last summer) to get into this space where I can write in that universe. It's better crafted than Tortall, more complete, more cohesive; it's harder to get a foothold, so to speak. But now that I'm in, I'm in, and I have so many ideas.
The crazy ladies don't stand a chance.
