Goldenlake members have probably already seen this, but here's the official fight list for SMACKDOWN, and here's an  event bracket I made.

Which I have also screencapped it and set as my desktop wallpaper, so I don't have to keep looking up the dates and match-ups.

I have no idea why I get this obsessed with this thing, but it's happening again.

In the first fight, I'm going to attempt to write some Buri/Thayet. Frankly I think Lark/Rosethorn is a shoe-in -- Luinae already had 100 entries stockpiled as of a few days ago, I suspect [livejournal.com profile] elsceetaria is writing like crazy,  [livejournal.com profile] kitty_ryan  is definitely in that corner, and [livejournal.com profile] q_sama  seems to be as well. So far, team Buri/Thayet seems to be.... Moony, and me. So I'm just hoping we can give them halfway decent showing.

The other arena is two guy-slash pairings I'm ambivalent on (Jon/Zahir and Dom/Evin), so it's kind of off my radar. I do know these two pairings have the same general fanbase (like the two femslash pairings in the first arena), so I'm really not sure who's ended up in which corner. But I found out last year that I can't focus on two fights at once anyway -- at least, not if I'm writing -- so I don't have much to say about that one.

The second set of fights, I have no idea if or what I might decide to write. If I want to write Clary/Mattes or Aly/Taybur, I suppose I should start rereading now so I'm in the right mood -- but that might break me too far out of the Emelan-bubble I've been in lately (more on that in a minute), so perhaps I'll default to Kel/Maura instead (since I know the PotS world like I know my own, and can generally slide in and out of it for fic purposes with no trouble). In which case, I'll be against [livejournal.com profile] q_sama , probably [livejournal.com profile] journeycat  and [livejournal.com profile] ubiquitous_girl , and the rest of Team Wyldon. Kel has a lot of love, but I really don't think it's obsessive enough to get this pairing to Round 2. Given that Kel had a SMACKDOWN all her own last year, I can't be too sad about that.

I'm unsure about the third set, too, but I'm leaning toward Raoul/Gary. As I said in a comment on [livejournal.com profile] q_sama 's journal, they were the highest vote-getter among the member-choice pairings, and they were Pierce fandom's first big slash pairing, so I'd like to see them go far. They have a huge amount of history to play in, I love Gary's snark, and I can almost always write from Raoul's POV. But this is the set of fights where I'm least able to even guess at an outcome. Lisa's supporting Neal/Owen, as is [livejournal.com profile] inthefire -- and if she can do half of what she did for Owen last year, it will get intense. The other arena is Kel/Jonathan vs. Rosethorn/Crane, a cross-universe match-up that's also likely to become heated.

Most of my energy is already geared toward the last set of fights in round one. One arena is Raoul/Sabine vs. Roger/Alanna, which is sure to be an interesting match since I'm certain there will be some very prolific writers (/rabid fangirls) on both sides. I'm hesitantly interested in both pairings, but I'll be staying away...

... Because the last fight in arena two is Tris/Briar/Sandry/Daja vs. Delia/Josiane. I've already started writing for T/B/S/D, and I know I'm not the only one. I'm not sure if anyone is really supporting Delia/Josiane; I feel a little bad about that, but not enough to defect from my SMACKDOWN OT4. I already talked about this, and I don't have much to add now -- except that I'm very much enjoying being inside my Emelan fic!bubble! It took me a long time (most of last summer) to get into this space where I can write in that universe. It's better crafted than Tortall, more complete, more cohesive; it's harder to get a foothold, so to speak. But now that I'm in, I'm in, and I have so many ideas.

The crazy ladies don't stand a chance.

I need to keep telling myself not to go crazy, because already I'm facing a great deal of conflict in most sets. Dom/Evin and Jon/Zahir? I'm so dead.

Heeeeee! At least you know a pairing you like will make it to round 2. :D That's what I'm telling myself, anyway...

True. Or I could just follow Lisa's example and write one fic for each pairing :P

I keep telling myself that SMACKDOWN helps me discover new pairings to go crazy over for PPF :P

Heh. I'm torn on the first fight. I actually prefer Thayet/Buri over Rosethorn/Lark just because it's... more interesting to explore. Buri-snark!! Part of me thinks I can write T/B with an easy conscience because I know L/R has such a support-base, and because I know I'll have no qualms supporting either in the next round. So even though it conflicts with my strong desire to see Emelan win, I'll probably write T/B in round one.

(I'm so with you on Fight A. OMG, yawn.)

I CANNOT WAIT for Circlecest. I'm hoping muses will come to inspire me, as I'm still woefully uncreative.

OH YAY! *flails*

Are you stuck for Circlecest ideas, or stuck on the actual writing? Because I have some ideas... :)

I'm stuck on both! I think if I get some ideas, I might be able to write a few. I'm sticking with drabble-lengths this year. While I'm proud of the few 1000+ word fics I wrote last year, they did little to boost my candidate over the edge, and took a good chunk of time. I'm also hoping to not slip into all-smut, all-the-time mode. (Considering I've written two smutty threesome drabbles already, I'm not getting far.)

LOL! This is gonna be so much fun!

I'll get some idea lists together soon-ish, probably. I have lots of suggestions!

Also meant to add - I'm supporting Team Maura/Kel, as well. I'm playing both sides of many fights this year. ^_^;; But Rosie infected my brain with plotbunnies.

Maura/Kel = yay, Nicki!!! I am in this fight for the fun and the Maura-loving, and not expecting to win - but if you do decide to write for it, I'd be delighted to have you on the same team.

I was hoping the Maura-love would win out for you, but I couldn't remember how much of a Wyldon fan you were.

Whoa whoa whoa. Where will all this Lark/Rosethorn fic be going? Because I can never have enough of that to read.

Someday I actually need to get into this Smackdown business, even though I haven't written Tammy fic in ages. And never Tortall, because apparently I have an Emelan heart.

Honestly, I haven't written as much as I'd like for LR (although it's probably more than anyone else excepting Luinae has written at this point). :)

I've started in on some circle fics.

Most of what you've said here seems to mirror what's been being said in chat the past couple days.

Hmm, I should go to chat more often! I used to a lot; I'm not sure why I stopped.

And I haven't written any B/T yet -- hence my feeling that it's a foregone conclusion. (But like I said, I don't mind all that much.)

I'm definitely planning to write for Buri/Thayet- I think I might need to get all the unrequited-pining fics out of my system, cause it wouldn't work as well for any of my other ships except Wyldon/Kalasin, but I also think there's a lot more to explore that hasn't been done already, which Lark/Rosethorn has.

Also, so excited for Circlecest and how much Emelan fic will result! :)

I'll write Buri/Thayet with you. I'm not sure I'll be much good - A-Levels suck! High predicted grades suck more! - but I'll have a bloody good go.

Don't wear yourself out, though. (Heck, I'm not even certain I'll be writing much, either. :p Stupid job-thing...)

Me neither, haha. Smackdown did amazing things for my Tamora Pierce wordcount last year.

I'm a bit worried about that, but I think once the mocks are over it'll be easier to find time to write (and sleep and eat and all those other... inessential things). The only piece of coursework I haven't got planned at least the teacher hasn't even started talking about.

Buri/Thayet is the only SMACKDOWN pair to really interest me more than vaguely (unfortunately), and I will try.

Lark/Rosethorn is epic amounts of pretty, but it's so hard to get a foothold in that universe, like you said.

It's still too bad most of the pairings are "meh" for you, but I absolutely can't be sorry you're writing this! All competitiveness aside, it'll be fun to read. :)

I rarely ever write femslash but after my 'Thayet and Jon in love just doesn't make sense' bitch, I think I managed to convert myself. And, really, as sweet as Lark/Rosethorn in, Buri/Thayet is more awesome.

So *fist bump* I've totally got your back.

I am going to WRITE for Wyldon/Kalasin, but I'm just as intrigued by Maura/Kel, of which I am getting terribly adorable lesbian tea-lady vibes (and also letter writing!) So I think I can manage something on both sides...and then probably pick one about half way through when I suddenly find myself invested

Heee, I don't know what you mean by tea-lady, but now I'm picturing them as a pair of fiercely independent bluestockings. And picturing Kel in Victorian drag, which is delicious.

I'd beg you to write letters with me again, but I don't trust myself not to flake on it. :p So I'll just look forward to reading your Wyldon/Kalasin fic instead.
