Buffy S8, Issue 28: Retreat, Part 3
Sep. 3rd, 2009 07:28 pm**SQUEEE!**
Bear in mind that I'm always a fangirl because of the characters far more than the plot.
So I LOVED this issue! Andrew pestering Giles. Kennedy's reaction to being no-longer-a-slayer and getting stuck churning butter. Satsu plowing. The conversation between Willow and Oz. Xander talking to Buffy. Buffy telling Willow what she did in the future. I loved it all!
Two things that deserve special mention:
First, the conversation between Buffy and Faith, which continues the "I'm the good slayer now?" theme. That's a whole lot of character packed into a single page. In a sense they've switched places: Faith is the one who really felt every human death that occurred because of choices she and the other slayers/scoobies made, and Buffy is the one who's having a hard time letting go of her power. (And hey, I think I ship Buffy/Faith now. Again.)
Second, DAWN AND XANDER! I so called it! (Ok, yeah, so did tons of other people. But I'm not usually on the up-and-up with stuff like that, so it makes me happy that I got one right.) There was the right amount of tease before the reveal, too -- although I hope Buffy's just surprised rather than actually heartbroken.
I'm totally happy with this issue, and as usual, i can't wait for the next one! I realize this one was so happy that there are sure to be dire things ahead -- I'm especially concerned that the Cute Kid is the thing to pull Willow out of her dark mood and convince her to believe in her/the future. When If something happens to him, it could very easily send her dark again.
But right now... I'm having a shitty time in Real Life, so this was a welcome escape. The area around Oz's chalet is just crawling with plot bunnies. I'm gonna go read it again!
And hey, I was right about Dawn and Xander, so maybe I'll be right about Twilight being Angel. Although... no one knows what Robin Wood's been up to in the last 20 issues or so. I didn't think of it before, but he's also a candidate.
