It's a fantasy book series by Sharon Shinn, and it's excellent! And yes, the names are wonderful! Apparently I don't have a Twelve Houses tag, but I have a Sharon Shinn tag, which will take you to my thoughts on the two books in the series I've read so far, if you're interested.

Firefly; Inara/Kaylee; Masochism.

I definitely ship them pretty often. I feel like through her various learnings and clients, Inara would have discovered the less vanilla aspects of sex and intimacy...and that she would have liked it to a certain degree. And that, since she loves Kaylee (romantically or romantic-friendshiply), she'd want to participate in it with her...and that that may lead to some interesting situations, since Kaylee is Kaylee, and most people wouldn't expect her to step into the whole BDSM arena, however lightly.

P.S. have you been by Goldenlake lately? I totally understand if you have too many other things going on, but the place is gearing up for this year's SMACKDOWN, and your input would be awesome! We're at the nominating-couples-for competition stage now.

I haven't been to Goldenlake lately - I've been way behind on everything. I do have too many other things going on, but that generally only means I SHOULD seek out places like Goldenlake to give me a sense of community and belonging and there-is-more-out-there-so-get-out-of-your-head-ness. What is SMACKDOWN? Sell me on it and I'm sure I'll come running back. (: (I keep wanting to go back, but re-entering places after some time away always takes more effort.)

SMACKDOWN is a 16-competitor tournament-style Tamora Pierce fanfic competition in which quantity (of drabble-or-longer ficlets) counts over quality. Last year it was a battle for Kel's hand (which is how I started shipping Kel/Buri(/Raoul), and then Kit and I ended up co-writing a series of letters between Kel and Alanna). But this year there will be 16 couples, representing all Pierce universes and including slash, femslash and het pairings. Nominations are currently here.
