Movies: uh... this is a slightly random, probably truncated list, but let's go with Across the Universe, The Princess and the Frog, and Star Trek.

2. He killed his father, or at least engineered his father's death, when he first started scheming for the throne.
3. He envies Duke Gareth's sense of style.
(b) A reason he/she sucks.
The sweating sickness? Not cool. Afflicting a whole populace just to get to the royal family is a strategy that completely lacks finesse.
(c) A reason he/she is amazing.
He's always willing to dream big, and I admire that.
(d) Five things that I'd like to see happen to them
1. Roger v. Numair! (er, if Roger hadn't died)
2. I'd like him to wash up in another universe instead of being dead. :)
3. I want to know what happened to the rest of the jewelry he made.
4. I want a mage from the next generation (like maybe Sarralyn?) to be housed in his old quarters, find some of his workbooks hidden under/behind something, try some of his spells, and get into all sorts of trouble.
5. I want Delia to write juicy memoirs detailing everything she knows about him.
(e) Five people that I can't ship that character with and why.
1. Kel. I think they'd hate each other, and not in a potential-UST kind of way.
2. Eleni, because she seems very much about balancing forces of nature/going with the flow, and of course Roger lives to Make Things Happen (right or wrong).
3. Duke Baird. I like Baird, but I think it would take 4 seconds for Roger to prove that his gift is bigger, and then he'd get bored.
4. Claw. I don't think they like each other, nor do they find each other interesting.
5. Daine. They both have so much power, but the type of magic is completely different, and their personalities are very different, too.

1. What you see is what you get, basically. He doesn't have hidden depths, and he's not secretly into poetry.
2. He does kind of view the Serenity crew as family, which is a surprise to him as much as to anybody else.
3. He tells people he left home in search of adventure, but actually it's because he was already on the run from the law.
(b) A reason he/she sucks.
He's made it plain that he follows the money, and the money could always be better somewhere else.
(c) A reason he/she is amazing.
He's very straightforward and easy to understand, and you want him on your side in a fight.
(d) Five things that I'd like to see happen to them.
1. Fall in love, whether he then settles down or whether he gets his heart broken and then goes right back to being his old self.
2. Lose a fight. I don't think it happens very often. I want to know how he takes it.
3. Put the moves on Kaylee -- it's quasi-canon that he has a crush on her, but I think Mal scared him off acting on it. That's silly; Kaylee's her own woman and doesn't need that kind of protection. So I'd like to see that play out, wherever it leads.
4. Captain his own ship, someday. Could be interesting.
5. Spend some time planet-side and start to go stir crazy.
(e) Five people that I can't ship that character with and why.
1. River. It's probably crossed his mind, but frankly, he thinks she's nuts and he doesn't want to get any more involved with the Tams than he has to.
2. Simon. See above about not getting involved with the Tams; plus, I can't even ship him with a girl who's as prissy as Simon.
3. Inara. There's a certain amount of art to being a companion, and I think it would be entirely lost on Jayne. Furthermore, Jayne knows it, too.
4. Mal, because he keeps Jayne in line largely through fear, and he'd never let Jayne close enough to find out if he's bluffing.
5. Wash. He'd totally start laughing, and then Jayne would kick his ass.

Date: 2010-12-03 07:17 pm (UTC)Yeah, the fandom reaction is related to his supposed "hidden depths" and also the idea of Jayne in a Tamwich of some variety, which skeeves me kind of a lot.
Apparently I've developed some very specific and adamant opinions regarding Firefly shipping. Possibly that needs its own post one day.

1. When the Doctor left her, she spent some time thinking through whether it would have been better if she'd never met him at all -- and she decided it wouldn't; she wouldn't give up knowing about everything that's Out There, even if she can't go back.
2. She was slightly weirded out by meeting Ten because he now looks younger than she does. If she ever meets Eleven, she'll be even more perturbed.
3. I really don't have anything else.
(b) A reason he/she sucks.
Her cat fight with Rose, of course.
(c) A reason he/she is amazing.
Like Martha, she made the decision in her post-Doctor life to keep on doing what she could to protect the earth.
(d) Five things that I'd like to see happen to them.
I really don't know her well enough to answer this one, sadly. I guess I'd like to see her join forces with some other past companions. And I hope she finds happiness/personal fulfillment on Earth, now that she's had a chance to say goodbye to the Doctor.
(e) Five people that I can't ship that character with and why.
1. The Doctor, because of the way he disappeared without saying goodbye and then turned up twenty years later like, "Hi! Gosh, it's great to see you!"
2. Rose, because I don't think they'd ever stop competing.
3. Amy, likewise. Plus she'd witness Amy's scattered quality and maternal instinct would probably kick in.
4. The Master, because I think she's done with Time Lord BS for good.
5. Uh.... K9? (I was going to say Jackie, but, egads, that's become one of those crack!bunnies that won't let go of my brain. WTF?)

2. Her aunt is a nurse who worked a lot of night shifts; that's why Amelia was home alone that night.
3. She sort of wanted to leave town after she finished school, but she didn't want to move out because she never stopped hoping the Doctor would come back.
(b) A reason he/she sucks.
She still has blinders on regarding the Doctor. She believes the best of him, which is sometimes justified -- but sometimes isn't. Though this isn't entirely her fault (see below).
(c) A reason he/she is amazing.
She's absolutely fearless! Or even when she is afraid, she doesn't let that stop her for a second.
(d) Five things that I'd like to see happen to them.
1. She needs to hear key pieces of the Doctor's backstory -- the destruction of Gallifray, Rose, Donna, etc. I don't think she knows about any of it yet, and she should.
2. I want her and Rory to have a kid, and take him/her along on their travels.
3. She needs to meet Jack Harkness, OMG! Hilarity would ensue.
4. Closely related to #2, I'd like her family to know the truth about what she's up to (and maybe have a cover story for their friends about Rory working as a volunteer nurse in South America or something).
5. She should steal River's diary, and then taunt the Doctor with her secret knowledge!
(e) Five people that I can't ship that character with and why.
1. River. IDK, I just don't see any romantic chemistry.
2. The Doctor. I don't think he's interested, and after she built him up in her imagination for twelve years, he probably wouldn't live up to her expectations anyway.
3. Sarah Jane. As I said above, I think there'd be too much competitiveness, and/or Sarah Jane would see Amy as a kid in need of mothering.
4. Mickey? He's like Rory in some ways, but I don't think he'd tolerate Amy pushing him around -- and no way would he date another of the Doctor's companions.
5. Is it cheating if I list the Ninth Doctor separately? I think they'd butt heads over every. little. thing. I don't think they could even be on the same TARDIS together, frankly.

1. He had to resort to some serious threats & intimidation to get someone to do that tattoo for him, since up close, it's obvious that he's a vampire.
2. Angel & Spike? Totally more than just "that one time."
3. Not exclusive to Angel, but vampires gain weight if they consume too much of anything other than blood. A vampire living on human blood would never want anything else, but pig's blood just isn't the same.
(b) A reason he/she sucks.
He's a manipulative bastard, from his cryptic messages to Buffy in his first appearances to altering his friends' memories in the last season of his show. It's wrong, even when it's because he's trying to protect someone.
(c) A reason he/she is amazing.
He owns up to the fact that he did some really bad things -- and he doesn't let that stop him from being a hero now.
(d) Five things that I'd like to see happen to them.
1. I'd like to see him unload that "moment of happiness" curse. He's got that tendency to be broody and sulky anyway; it doesn't help him to hide behind the curse that makes it so he can't be happy.
2. Barring that, I want something other than sex or being in love to activate the curse.
3. I want him to make peace with the Watcher's Council and start collaborating with Buffy and her crew again (though ideally from a distance).
4. I want his relationship with Nina to work out reasonably well.
5. All of the snarking and arguing that he and Spike do in the last season of AtS? I want that to never stop.
(e) Five people that I can't ship that character with and why.
1. Xander. They would compete endlessly, and neither of them would be happy about it.
2. Connor. They have major issues to work out, but that is not the way to do it.
3. Gunn. There's absolutely no chemistry between them; I don't even know how they'd get to a place where it was a possibility.
4. Tara. They're just worlds apart in every way. I think this might be the only Buffyverse pairing I've never encountered in fic.
5. Dawn, at least any time in the next forty years. Buffy would kill them both. But by the time Dawn's middle aged, it might be ok.
