Sign of the apocalypse...
May. 13th, 2009 10:37 pmI've watched BtVS all the way through once, and then again up the end of S5, all marathon-style on DVD.
But I have some issues with the last two seasons, and consequently my rewatching of these has been much slower and more haphazard. I rewatched S6 from "Entropy" to the season finale a few weeks ago, and then went straight on to the first three eps. of S7 (partly because "Same Time, Same Place" is one of my very favorite Buffy episodes). Then I watched "Bargaining," and then I stopped for a while.
Then back to S7 for a few eps, then back to S6 up to & including "Life Serial" (which is another particular favorite, and one of only 2 S6 episodes I've seen more than twice). Then, today, back to S7: I had the day off & I watched a preposterous number of episodes while folding laundry.
And watching "Never Leave Me," seeing Buffy and Spike interact... here it is... it dawned on me, "Yeah, I actually ship that."
"I actually ship that."
WTF?
My first time watching the series, I didn't like them together until "Chosen" -- and then, maybe I only liked them together because I knew it didn't last. It seems like everywhere you go in online Buffy fandom, you run into thousands of crazy-obsessive Spuffy fans -- and I have this contrary streak that makes me want to specifically not like what everybody else likes. (Though I'll go out of my way to avoid getting in flame wars, cuz it's not really my business what anybody else likes, you know?) Also, I firmly believe that in S6, they're just bad for each other. And the first time through S7, I did my marathon thing way too fast & probably missed out on a lot, just in a desire to Find Out How It Ends.
Now that I'm rewatching S6 & S7? I don't know. Especially since I'm watching in whatever order I feel like, not in anything chronological to speak of. Maybe I'll actually end up a (gulp) Spuffy fan? Sure sign of the apocalypse, I tell you.

I will slash anyone, girl or boy, given the chance... but I can't help feeling like it was partly done to get attention. And the whole, "I slept with a girl but I'm not a dyke!" attitude doesn't sit well with me. So as canon, I'm ambivalent.
But it makes some damn good fanfic. So yes, I still kind of ship that, too.

Well, nobody has gone to Hell or distintegrated yet, but things are a bit rocky. Definitely read up to #22 for the latest on this 'ship.

That's a big issue in #22... didn't sit well with Kennedy, either. I just look at all the other stuff that was said between them in the "A Beautiful Sunset" issue and the "Wolves at the Gate" series, and it's obvious Buffy... distracted and in denial as she may be... has much deeper feelings for Satsu than simply getting her rocks off. And the comic's editor, Scott Allie, tells me they're not done with this story line yet. So I have (a little... not much) hope.
But I love them together, so I was perfectly happy to write them as an AU pairing.

Erm, ok, stopping at the comic book store tomorrow to look for #22.
