Because [livejournal.com profile] q_sama  and [livejournal.com profile] treanz  did it, and I'm suggestible.

SMACKDOWN confession #1: I'm getting really tired of shoehorning all four Circle characters into every fic I write.

I could happily go on exploring the component relationships of Briar/Daja/Sandry/Tris for a long, long time to come. And regardless of whether sex and/or romance enter into it, I'm firmly and in all seriousness convinced that the four of them make much more sense together than they ever could apart. I've now written something like 70 ficlets, 100 to 350 word each, including several unfinished series that I would really like to wrap up somehow. And at this point, making sure I hit the requirements for competition is so tedious.

SMACKDOWN confession #2: Outside of my mod/QC role, I'm barely reading anything posted in the arenas.

I feel terrible about this one, because reading and commenting is how you get to know people, and make friends, and become an actual team instead of a random collection of people who happen to be writing the same characters. I just haven't had the time to be involved in that way, and it makes me sad.

SMACKDOWN confession #3: I can't write smut this year.

I don't get it. I cannot seem to go down that road. I have one series in progress that starts out a little smutty, and then it becomes more farce-like, with eavesdropping and speculation and banter, but very little description of action. I totally ship Circlecest -- some combinations more than others, it's true -- but I can barely write it in anything other than a platonic light, and it's starting to bug me.

I can relate on some level to all three of these. Currently I'm co-writing an Alan/Maura series and I have to check each time to make sure there's enough Kel in each chapter, and it's hard to constantly keep myself in check. On the other hand, I think Circle lends itself better to casual references, since the environment around them is such a part of who they are. Plants = Briar, cloth = Sandry, etc. In some ways Circle is both the hardest and the easiest. Especially since the QCing is fairly leniant on what's "enough" to get by.

I remember last year I commented on every fic for every team I supported in the first fight of round one, and it was awesome. I loved being that "into" it. But this year... I just don't have the time or energy - especially since we're putting out so much more as a group.

And on the smut... OMG, yeah. :( I was bleeding smut from the fingers last year, and now my fics are prudish.

I'm looking forward to reading your Alan/Maura series, and I'm hugely entertained that you managed to bend things around enough to make that work for Kel/Maura. :D

It's hard to remember to put all four characters in each fic when I'm writing a series that involves them all, but they don't necessarily have to all be involved in each scene/fic-within-the-series.

Meh. Whatever happens, I'm sure the final will be intense, and I'm sure I'll get fully sucked in.

#1 - YES YES YES THAT.

#2 - I'm so sorry to hear that. =( *Snuggles.* I feel bad just having been out of Circlecest for so much of round 3; I really couldn't participate until Saturday, which means I'm behind on so much reading - for L/R from R2, too, which I hate to admit. So I know the feeling a little bit.

#3 - I'm sorry to hear that, too. I do like reading Circlecest smut, but I doubt I could ever write it, unless I wrote an orgy for all of them...and I'm simply not that clever with my writing.

All in all, though, *hugs!*

2. Well, that's the reason you (and everyone else!) don't have a lot of comments from me. And I figure everyone else is kind of in the same boat. :-/ At least we'll have summer entertainment to catch up on, yes?

3. I've only written one Circlecest smut fic -- yes, it's all of them -- and I can't seem to make it work again. Or any other smut, either. Though your icon is kind of inspiring in that regard.
