I'm 21 days into my [ profile] 31_days  collection ('m a little behind...), and I've about just reached 6,000 words (which is about the length of my longest completed story). That's an average of just under 300 words per installment, and I really don't think the last few will be shorter than the early installments. Assuming I manage to finish, the whole thing could easily end up close to 10,000 words. I don't know if it's a single story, exactly -- I think it is a collection of related pieces, though with some (significant) future editing, I could turn it into a kind of novella. I'd like to make that happen, maybe for Piercefic 2011.

In between working on that, I've been thinking about NaNoWriMo. I've been thinking about how I can write 2000 words of anything I want to write in the first place, and I can write 4000 to 5000 if I really have something to say, but after that I start to get lost. I really want to do NaNo, and I'd like to further develop my writing skills. This means I somehow have to get from 6,000 words to 50,000, and I don't really know how.

Well, somebody over at Glake mentioned that Alanna: The First Adventure is just about 50,000 words. That's a whole lot of action and adventure. )

Last but not least, I have some observations on threesome fics and Kel/Buri/Raoul, which is my new OT3. I think it's a great thing for bi(-ish) girls to reclaim f/f/m fiction from skeezy straight boys who just want to look at two naked girls. (Edit to add: I don't mean to make it sound like I think a guy being interested in this kind of thing is automatic skeeze, only that it has to be handled with respect and it's 2/3 about the girls.)

And yes, I talk about Nathan Fillion under the cut. )

(In case anyone's wondering, Part 2 is f-locked because it's a little personal. If you want me to friend you, just comment here with how we know each other!)

After spending all last night writing & posting, I can't believe I spent so long in front of the computer today, too. But evidently, I had to get this out.

Round 1 of the Smackdown is over, and I know I'm not the only one saying, “Oh, thank God!” Rambles, mostly about writing, under the cut. )

Writing's not an ambition for me or anything like that. It's just something I do. But it's something I like. It's something I miss, badly, during the times I'm not doing it.

I've realized, lately, that my writing skills are a lot more limited than I'd like. Specifically, I have trouble with plot, I lack staying power, I don't finish what I start, I rarely bother to outline or plan, and I'm much better at fanfic than at creating original characters. Since I'm not going to stop writing, I might as well work on some of these things.

writing plans under the cut. )

You might notice there's no Buffy on that list. If you friended me based on shared interest in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I'll say right now that I won't be offended if you want to un-friend so as to not have all my stuff cluttering up your list. I'll probably still read and comment on your posts, though! I'm still a fan, I'm just... distracted.

As for this Smackdown thing... disorganized rambles under the cut. )

maybe I'd be better off saving my energy for Neal-or-Raoul and Buri? I just don't know.
