peroxidepirate: (everybody's gotta go)
I have a lot of thinky-thoughts in my head right now, most of which either start or end with Doctor Who. And apparently, I am incapable of doing anything constructive (or, indeed, anything at all for longer than 15 seconds at a stretch) until I get the thoughts out in some way. So.

I'm up to "The Idiot's Lantern" and I'm loving Rose Tyler more with every passing episode.I'm kind of getting obsessed. )

Oh yes, I have a graphics program now! Woooot!

So, I offer you a bunch o' Buffy icons with song lyrics. Feel free to download & use these if you like 'em. The first one was [personal profile] green_maia 's idea, quite a long while ago. There's another one that goes along with a little fic I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] still_grrr a couple of week ago. The rest are pretty random... MP3 player + Buffy fanaticism + graphics program = these icons.

Oh, and the screen caps are all from www.screencap-paradise.com/ because they're awesome.

Also, I'm totally addicted to making these now. So if you want an icon (or several), let me know! Give me a song lyric and a scene/character/pairing, and I'll deliver.

Icons under the cut, if it works right. Yes, they're a little bigger than actually icons right now, because I have the space for it. If (ok, when) I start running out of space, I'll scale them down.icons!! )

A thread on [personal profile] green_maia 's journal inspired me to post my first-ever poll. Maia's question was whether BtVS would have been a better show if it ended with S5 -- and naturally, that segued into commentary on the final ending of the show in S7. Now I'm curious. And rather than threadjacking over there, I thought I'd start my own poll. Two questions, pretty straightforward. For question 2, check as many answers as you want. For both questions, there's an "other" option in case you don't agree with any of the answers. And please feel free to comment! Also, since my F-list is tiny, I'd love it if anyone wants to link this. I want to know what people think.

Characters: Spike, Buffy, Willow, Kennedy, Xander, Renee, Dawn

I've watched BtVS all the way through once, and then again up the end of S5, all marathon-style on DVD.

But I have some issues with the last two seasons, and consequently my rewatching of these has been much slower and more haphazard. I rewatched S6 from "Entropy" to the season finale a few weeks ago, and then went straight on to the first three eps. of S7 (partly because "Same Time, Same Place" is one of my very favorite Buffy episodes). Then I watched "Bargaining," and then I stopped for a while.

Then back to S7 for a few eps, then back to S6 up to & including "Life Serial" (which is another particular favorite, and one of only 2 S6 episodes I've seen more than twice). Then, today, back to S7: I had the day off & I watched a preposterous number of episodes while folding laundry.

And watching "Never Leave Me," seeing Buffy and Spike interact... here it is... it dawned on me, "Yeah, I actually ship that."

This whole time I've been kind of anti-spuffy... )

Here's a drabble meme I got from the lovely [livejournal.com profile] gabrielleabelle -- she wrote an excellent Giles/OC drabble for my request, and now it's my turn to write ten drabbles.

"The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request a drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing from me. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level. If you absolutely can't write, you can offer icons or something instead."

I'm willing to write....
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • Angel: the Series
  • Buffy Season 8 Comics (but I've only read up to issue 20)
  • Tamora Pierce, Tortall universe (anything)
  • Tamora Pierce, Circle universe (anything except Melting Stones, which I never finished)

So... fire away! Just pick a fandom and give me a character, pairing, setting, and/or prompt of your choice.

(And by the way, if you've already done this meme, you can make a request for "free" -- that is, you don't have to then take requests for 10 more drabbles, cuz that would just get silly.)

There are a ton of reasons to like Buffy the Vampire Slayer: it's more feminist than 90% of TV, the fight scenes are action-packed, the repartee is witty, the girls are cute, the characters are allowed to grow and change, and the plots (usually) make sense. So it's pretty much inevitable that I'd become a fan.

But the thing that caused me to become obsessed, the thing that sunk into my hind-brain and made me dream about the Buffy-verse until I started writing and reading fanfic, isn't any of these.

The thing that made me obsessed is Angel's story of guilt, atonement, and redemption.

The following is a Buffy-fandom-meta on sexual orientation, along with some personal stuff on the same subject. It's interspersed with snippets of what might one day grow up into a fanfic. Though I doubt it, because it's about Willow, and I identify with her so closely that's it's really hard for me to write her.

Comments (even questions) are welcome, as long as you're nice about it. :)
